Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada recently celebrated its 75th anniversary at the 9th annual Plates to Ease Poverty gala. The event was hosted in the Paradise Ballroom at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa and attended by more than 500 people.

There were several special performances during the event. The children from Holy Child Early Learning Center sang “You Are My Sunshine” and presented Tom Dolan with a special plate that they made to thank him for his continued support of Catholic Charities. Several clients from the Crossroads program performed a powerful song that they wrote entitled “Reno’s Kryptonite”, which talks about their personal struggles with addiction and the ongoing problem of substance abuse in our community.

Peter Vogel, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, unveiled a heartwarming video to commemorate the 75th anniversary of CCNN. It included background on CCNN’s various poverty assistance programs and touching testimonials from several individuals that we’ve served.

The evening was capped off with the presentation of the Bishop’s Humanitarian Award. Bishop Randolph Calvo paid tribute to Tom Dolan for his support of Catholic Charities and many other charitable organizations in northern Nevada. Tom is one of the most generous individuals in our community and we were so glad that we were able to honor him in the presence of his family and friends.

The work that CCNN does is meant to inspire hope in the people we serve and those who volunteer with us, and we are so thankful that we were able to share this with everyone that attended Plates to Ease Poverty.
