Going back to school can be a stressful time for families that are living on a limited income or have financial hardships. The cost of a new backpack and the necessary classroom supplies can be overwhelming for some parents, especially if they’re struggling to make ends meet. As an organization that strives to ease the pain of poverty in our community, we want to make going back to school an enjoyable experience for the low-income families throughout Nevada.

During the month of July, we received donations from Our Lady of the Snows Women’s Auxiliary, Wells Fargo, and several generous individuals, which allowed us to acquire more than 300 new backpacks. With help from volunteers, we were able to fill these backpacks with various school supplies, including: pencils, pens, crayons and notebooks.

This month we will be distributing the backpacks to schools in Washoe County and in rural counties across Nevada through our One-Stop-Shop Community Outreach. We’ve also had several people request backpacks for their children through Resource Network. Our goal is to give any extra backpacks we have to their office.

There’s still time to donate if anyone would like to contribute a backpack or supplies. Contact Jordan Stiteler fore for more info at 322-7073 ext. 242 or jstiteler@ccsnn.org.
