Update (11/28/18): We will only be accepting gifts cards and monetary donations going forward. We appreciate the tremendous generosity of everyone in the community who has already donated to help victims of the Camp Fire in northern California. The amount of clothing, hygiene items, and other goods we have received has been incredible! Checks can be made out to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, and we will convert them to gift cards for the families.

Many people in Northern California are suffering as a massive wildfire ravages Butte County, north of Sacramento. According to Cal Fire, the Camp Fire is now 113,000 acres in size and remains 25 percent contained. That was the latest update as of Monday, November 12.

Cal Fire says 29 people were killed in the Camp Fire. In total, 15,500 structures are threatened, 6,453 homes are destroyed, 36 homes are damaged, 260 businesses are destroyed, 22 businesses damaged and 389 other minor structures destroyed.

Cal Fire expects full containment by November 30, 2018.

Due to the devastation, thousands of families have sought refuge in Chico and Oroville, but have lost nearly everything they own. Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is collecting the following items for those impacted by the Camp Fire in Northern California: warm clothes, shoes, paper products (toilet paper, utensils, paper plates, paper towels), and women's undergarments. Blankets and coats are among the most needed items right now. Please bring donations to the St. Vincent’s Helping Hands office (SNAP Outreach Door) on our main campus at 4th and Valley. We will be collecting items for the next several weeks, with a plan to have them sent over to California on a weekly basis.
