Reno, Nevada (February 25, 2019) — The City of Reno and Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada are looking for the community’s assistance to help our homeless population during our region’s recent extreme weather.
With the winter weather increasing demand on regional services, Catholic Charities has opened a warming center in the St. Vincent's Dining Room at 325 Valley Road as of Monday, February 25, 2019 from 6 to 9 a.m. as part of #OperationNoFreeze.
Catholic Charities is providing shelter and hot beverages and, depending upon availability, hot cereal. They are in need of volunteers to provide logistical support between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., Monday through Saturday. They are also accepting donations of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, oatmeal, paper bowls, hot cups, and plastic spoons at the 325 Valley Road location or at any of their Thrift Store donation locations.
Please make sure donations are clearly marked with #OperationNoFreeze. Individuals interested in volunteering should contact Lisa Ross at Catholic Charities at 775-322-7073 ext. 235 or via email at lzross@ccsnn.org.
The City of Reno and Catholic Charities would also like to thank the faith-based community, which has also stepped up to assist.
The City of Reno is looking for additional volunteers and suggestions on additional space that could be used as warming centers across in the community. Warming centers are needed in the evening as well. Suggestions or recommendations can be sent to homeless@reno.gov. Anyone interested in volunteering can also contact the City of Reno.
