Shirley is a single mother of two children, a teen in her senior year of high school and a 9 year old son. Shirley is newly in recovery and moved into her first stable home in June with Section 8 housing. What a bright new beginning this is for the whole family!
As a pre-K teacher, Shirley just received a SAMSA Grant to continue her education in Early Childhood Development. Teaching little children is something that really resonates with her. When school closed for summer and then again for fall break, Shirley’s income fell and left her budget tight for rent. She and her daughter quickly found a second job at Scheel’s. Her new employer was willing to work around her teaching schedule, so things were looking up. Yet, she fell behind and was facing eviction. The family’s stress
level reached a new high.
