Since 1961, the Nugget Casino Resort, through the St. Vincent's Dining Room, has provided Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to those in need. We are happy to announce that this year is no different! The Nugget will be graciously providing enough turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream to feed more than 1,000 people. All are invited, no questions asked.
What will be different in 2020, is how we serve these delicious meals. In an effort to keep patrons, staff, and volunteers safe and healthy, we will be serving holiday meals "to-go" as we've been doing on a daily basis since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. While we realize this is not the ideal holiday situation, this model is working well and our patrons are used to the routine.
The St. Vincent's Dining Room has been operating with a strict set of protocols which requires few volunteers. The holiday meals will operate under the same daily protocols so we will not be in need of extra volunteers on the holidays. While we will miss seeing our usual group of holiday volunteers, we must remain vigilant and minimize potential virus exposure in the kitchen. Our patrons depend on us for food seven days per week so keeping the staff healthy is of paramount importance.
In an effort to make the holidays special for our patrons, we are working on procuring gift cards to give to each one. We need your help with this! Please consider either donating cash for us to purchase gift cards or donating gift cards in $10 increments to Walmart, McDonald's, Starbucks.
