Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada’s Affordable Housing Programs

Our Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada Affordable Housing Programs are designed to provide clean, safe, and friendly housing options for many people in our community. We provide low-income individuals and families with a welcoming housing situation, as well as the dignity and pride that come from having a home to call one’s own. We offer the following:

  • Studio Apartments
  • Group Living Apartments
  • Single Family Homes/Duplexes

St. Vincent’s Residence/ Crossroads Program

In 2009, we built a new three-story studio apartment building, which expanded our housing capacity by 27 units. Then in early 2010, we began a partnership with Washoe County Social Services (WCSS), which is now known as the Crossroads Program. WCSS uses two of our apartment buildings to house about 60 men and women who have graduated from local homeless shelters and substance abuse treatment programs. The program’s goal is to prevent relapses into homelessness and substance abuse, and to reduce costs associated with jail, hospital and other emergency service costs. The program has shown tremendous success with many community partners, and Washoe County estimates that Crossroads is saving the community about $4 million per year. There is a lengthy waiting list for clients to enter Crossroads, and we look forward to a potential expansion of this program.

The Park House

In May of 2013, we renovated three 1955 multi-unit housing complexes on Montello Street in Reno, and began a brand new collaboration with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (NNAMHS). The Park House is a supportive living arrangement modeled after our highly successful Crossroads Program, and will house 21 adult mental health clients with co-occurring substance abuse disorders. At The Park House, clients will be wrapped in social services as they continue their regular treatment programs. They will be surrounded by a live-in network which will aim to help them establish healthy relationships, a sense of community, and improved life and social skills. We believe both Crossroads and The Park House are benchmark programs that have the potential for expansion and replication both locally and statewide.
